A Raja Ram, a DMK Politician incite controversy with his statement, “We are enemies of Ram,” which prompted the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) to respond quickly and ignited a national conversation.
The debate started soon after senior DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked one with his comments about Hinduism. Speaking to the assembly, A Raja Ram made remarks about catchphrases like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” saying, “We are enemies of Ram.” India retaliated, calling the BJP’s accusations of supporting the country’s partition a “private statement.”
A Raja Ram’s remark was criticized by the Congress party, which emphasized the need of exercising caution when making pronouncements. BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a counteroffensive, accusing A Raja Ram of insulting Hindu deities and casting doubt on the alliance’s political goals. Anurag Thakur, the central minister, denounced people who mistreat Hindi, support the ‘Tukde-Tukde’ gang, call for the division of India, and yell ‘Pakistan Zindabad‘ following state election victories. The BJP persisted in highlighting the need of respecting all religions and accused the Congress party of betraying its principles in order to advance its own political agenda.
